Weaving Connections (sold at Cambridge Open Studios 2019)

16″wide x 12″high  x 1¾”deep, on stretched canvas

silver leaf, acrylic monoprint, separate hand woven piece, hand stitching, silver thread

Weaving is often used as a metaphor for human connection, community, and the complexities of social engagement.  For this painting, I first applied silver leaf to the canvas.  It was then imprinted with the design left by pressing a piece of a weaving coated with white acrylic paint.  (I hand wove the linen thread scarf on a large loom.)  A square section of the weaving was silver leafed and hand stitched to the canvas with silver metallic thread.   An unassuming, soft, and textural mixed-media painting.
