acrylic monoprint background, original Shibori-dyed fabric, hand sewing, thread, on paper
This striking painting was made by two textile-based techniques. The background “monoprint” was made by painting cheesecloth and pressing on a thick piece of paper. Shibori dyeing is an ancient Japanese technique of folding, tieing, or stiching cloth before dipping in a dye solution. I made this piece by wrapping turquoise linen around a thick pole before submerging in black dye. It was trimed and handsewn on the monoprinted paper.
